Task

Your company will develop a team of experts to conduct research and analysis in the general areas of sustainability and about specific sustainable community indicators. Team members should review basic demographic and land use data for Trenton and the relationship of those variables to the twelve available brownfields in Trenton. This research should include a somewhat successful project developed at a place called the “Magic Marker Site”.

Image: Sustainable CommunitiesYour company should come together to decide on the 10 acres to be re-developed and prepare a visually appealing 30 minute presentation of your proposal. There is no specific format for the presentation but all relevant text and graphics must be visible from all seats in the classroom (suggested format is either PowerPoint or poster board). You may create a formal Your proposal must include the following:

1. a description of the specific site or sites selected including your rationale and comparisons to sites not selected;

2. an assessment of the existing social, economic, and environmental conditions of the city

3. the type of redevelopment plan for each site;

4. the impact of the plan on the social, economic, and environment conditions community and

5. the specific ways in which your plan will move the city of Trenton towards becoming a sustainable community.

You do not have to include a formal and detailed budget but you should address fiscal responsibility through redevelopment plan’s potential to create a sustainable community.

Image: Sustainable CommunitiesThe twelve brownfields have undergone sufficient remediation and the properties are assumed to be ‘shovel-ready” so you do not have to present solutions to clean up hazardous materials. “Shovel-ready” does not necessarily imply that all contaminants have been completed eradicated from the site. Therefore, you should consider the pre-existing land use and zoning regulations when deciding on which sites to select and what type of redevelopment plan to implement
