Rain

By Sheri Rossinsky and Kendra Saari

Trickle, Trickle
Splash, Splash
I wonder how long this rain will last.
The rain keeps coming,
The rain won't stop.
Tell me how long this rain will last!
Clouds are forming all over the sky,
Cumulus, stratus why, oh, why?

Trickle, Trickle
Splash, Splash
I wonder how long this rain will last.
Thunder and lightning are in the storm too,
Golden sun we really miss you!

Trickle, Trickle
Splash, Splash
I wonder how long this rain will last.

SCIENCE EXPERIMENTS

by Geovani Ayala
4-Sweeney

In the past 3 weeks we've been doing experiments on water and the water cycle non stop. Our first experiment was measuring water in food. Our class proved that if any food is heated without water, the water is removed from the food. We first weighed the food on a scale before heating and found the mass in grams. We cooked an onion, a piece of apple, and a noodle for one hour. In one hour the foods that we used were dry, very dry. Our conclusion was that there is a lot of water in food.

Our second experiment proved that liquid takes up less space than gas. We put air pressure into a 2 liter soda bottle by putting hot water in the bottle and then putting the bottle on ice. In 15 minutes the bottle caved in. This showed that as liquid vapor condenses to water, it takes up less space.

Our third experiment showed that evaporation purifies water. We heated salt and sugar with water. We thought that the salt and sugar would evaporate with the water when they were heated for 1 hour. The salt stayed white and did not evaporate. A physical change occurred because the salt stayed as salt and the water evaporated. The sugar, on the other hand, did not evaporate, but it turned black. When it burned, that is a chemical change.

Finally our last experiment showed that air has weight. We are now studying the five layers of the atmosphere, the exosphere, thermosphere, mesosphere, stratosphere, and thermosphere. We all got to vote and eleven of us said that air has no weight, and 12 of us voted that air has weight. The answer came out that air does have weight. We balanced 2 balloons of the same weight and when Mrs. Sweeney popped one of the balloons, the one with air fell to the floor which meant air has weight. Then Mrs. Yelenik weighed it on a scale and it weighed 2.2 grams. That is all the experiments we've done in these past 7 weeks.

THE TERRIBLE CLOUD

by Carlos Castillo
4-Perez

One day a fluffy cloud was playing with his friends. Suddenly a thundercloud came and bumps into the cloud. All of his friends burst open and drops of water fell out. The drop was sad about losing his friends. He was stuck in a pond. After all the drops fell, the dark cloud was passing and laughing at the drops. I felt really sad about losing all my friends. When the sun came out, all the water was disappearing. The cloud was really happy because all his friends were back into the cloud.

A RAINDROP

by Miguel Acosta
4-Perez

One day I was floating in the air when all of a sudden a dark cloud past me. I lost my balance and I was falling down and I fell into a lake. I was thinking what to do when all of a sudden I was floating again but I was not controlling it. I looked in a school and I saw a girl named Jannesel Rivera. She was answering questions. Then I said, "I am evaporating" and then I saw a pollution (dirty air). It took me into a condensation. I was seeing a lot of water with me and we became a cloud. We got colder and colder until we broke apart and we were falling as snow. I fell in the lake again and I was called collection. I don't know what is going to happen next. It goes over and over and that is my story about raindrops.

ONE RAINY DAY

by Ashley Edwards 4-Perez

I was a raindrop sitting on a cloud. I wasn't ready to fall because I was afraid of how it would feel when dropping down to the ground. Then I saw a cloud. It was a dark cloud. It was coming this way. I tried not to panic but I panicked. Then the dark cloud crashed into this cloud and I fell down to the ground. And nothing happened. I just splashed on the ground. Then I didn't feel anything. My body was flowing on a ground. People were stepping on me and stepping on me. And then an amazing thing happened to me. I came up where I was first at on that fluffy cloud. The end.

THE APHID AND THE ANT

by Leslie Lugardo
6-Mongelli

Once upon a time there was an aphid who was sucking sap from a stem. It was a sunny day and the aphid was having a nice time. But, one day a dark cloud came by and then the aphid got scared. The aphid saw an ant and the ant said, "Come to my house and you'll get some food to eat." The aphid said, "Okay." The aphid stayed in the ant's house for 2 days. When the sun finally came out, the aphid said, "Bye" to the ant. The aphid went and started sucking sap and had a wonderful time. This is how plants and animals live together in an ecosystem.

The Terrible Cloud

by Frangel Jimenez
4-Perez

Once I was a raindrop in my fluffy white cloud until a terrible cloud came and bumped into me. I was so scared that that I changed into a hailstone. Then it bumped my cloud again so hard that I fell deep to the ground. I became very scared that I will never get back to my cloud. The next day a storm came but didn't take me. Another cloud came and I asked, "Please take me up with you." It said, "I'm too full to take you." I started crying. The next day there were no clouds to take me because the sun was not evaporating us up. Then one day a cloud took me with it and I became very happy.

THE WATER CYCLE

by Charlie Vidal
4-Sweeney

The water cycle starts by ground water. When it evaporates, it turns into water vapor because of the heat from the sun. When the water vapor gets into the sky it turns into clouds and it is called condensation. In the cloud, the water vapor turns into little drops of liquid because when you go higher, you get colder. Precipitation is when it rains and it turns into ground water again. The water gets clean when it evaporates because it leaves the salt or sugar or sand behind.

I AM A RAINDROP

by Luis Collazo
4-Perez

One day it was a very cloudy and rainy day. I went outside and it was lightning and I fell from the sky and one of the lightning bolts hit me. I fell down and turned into a scientist. I became a very great scientist. I was so smart in science that a famous scientist called me and asked me to help them with a big experiment. They needed help so I helped them do the experiment. The experiment came out great and after that I made my own laboratory.

CLOUDS

by Melissa Perez
4-Perez

Once upon a time there was a raindrop in a cloud. These big mean bully clouds came and pushed our cloud. The raindrop fell down. It landed in the lake and it felt really sad. The bully clouds went away and the sun came out. The raindrop evaporated into water vapor and went up to help make a cloud. It was so happy again. But, it just wondered if the bully clouds would not come back.

WHEN I WAS A RAINDROP

by Jennysel Rivera
4-Perez

When I was a raindrop, I saw dark, dark clouds. I was afraid because they were shooting lightning and one of them bumped into me. I fell down and into a lake. The sun came out and I evaporated. I kept getting higher and higher. Since there was pollution, I got stuck to it. I was lifted up into a cloud again. I was very happy.
The End

THE TERRIBLE CLOUD

by Natasha Nika
4-Perez

One day I was a raindrop laying in my fluffy white cloud watching the people and kids play. Then my white cloud became black and started to move. It made me hit myself on the ground. People stepped on me and spit on me. Then when I got hit by a rock I tried to move some place where nobody will mess with me so I can relax. I tried to go up where I was first by imagining my white fluffy cloud. Finally the sun came out and I evaporated into my white fluffy cloud. I hope my white fluffy cloud will not turn black again.

Fly Your Kite on a Windy Day

by Naomi Schachner

Fly your kite on a windy day, but don't get it stuck in a cloud!

For the cloud will grab the kite and pull you up and then he'll shout out loud,

"Hey guys, come on! I caught a kid!" (for he knows you won't let go),

And his cloud friends will gather round and toss you to and fro.

When the clouds tire of you and your kite, they'll drop you to the ground,

So fly your kite on a windy day, but don't get it stuck in a cloud!

Benard's Bad Day

by Michael Ellman

The rain is pouring down so hard,

It's ruining the hair of poor Benard.

The rain has started a flood in his town,

Now you see why he's wearing a frown.

Little Buds on the Trees

by Kevin Banahan

Little buds on the trees,

Before long you'll be known as leaves

As you grow so fast,

Winter will be left in the past!

As you take in sunlight,

You get even more bright.

Little buds on the trees,

Before long you'll be known as leaves.
