Commissioner
Odum Niche announced that the DEP will
recommend "targeted dredging" of
PCB-contaminated pockets in the Ramford River.
The project will remove approximately two
million cubic yards of sediment from PCB
"hot spots" along a 20 mile stretch
of river around the city of Ramford.
Contaminated sediments will be treated and
sent to landfills; the dredging will take
about four years to complete. The recommended
project culminates a 10 year study on the
health and ecological effects of PCBs in the
Ramford River.
