PROJECT: The Malaria Controversy  Knowledge:Integration:Experience

The University of California at Berkeley       http://www.kie.berkeley.edu/

THE BIG PICTURE

The Purpose of Learning the Basics

Welcome to the “Malaria Controversy” project. In this project, you will
learn about three different strategies for controlling the spread of
malaria. To prepare for your presentation, you will carefully examine
evidence related to the malaria controversy.

But before you start looking at evidence, you need to learn about
malaria: what is it, where is it prevalent, and how do people catch it?

West Nile: Coming to a Town Near You?

So many birds of different feathers have tested positive for the
West Nile virus this year that scientists from the U.S. Geological
Survey are saying the New Yorkbased bug is bound to spread
much farther south and west than was expected. “West Nile virus
has been isolated from more than 63 species of birds, including 53
free-ranging species from eight states,” stated Robert McClean, director
of the U.S.G.S. National Wildlife Health Center in Madison, Wis.,                http://www.sciam.com/news/100500/1.html
