Many plant and wildlife species can be found near or in cities, agricultural fields, and recreational areas. Before allowing a pesticide product to be sold on the market, we ensure that the pesticide will not pose any unreasonable risks to wildlife and the environment.

In the heyday of the war on malaria, widespread DDT-spraying campaigns were used to stifle the pesky bloodsuckers. But DDT played havoc with the environment — it killed birds
and beneficial insects as well as anopheles mosquitoes. And the
mosquitoes eventually gained resistance .
