Meeting Minutes

Major (Dr.) Wanda Reed reminds the group that presently there is no vaccine or treatment for the disease which is characterized by high fever, severe headaches, temporary loss of vision, vomiting and diarrhea. The virus in its classic form is usually not fatal in humans. However, Dr. Reed expresses her concern for an emergent more virulent strain of the disease known as hemorrhagic SRRV. This strain of the virus causes the walls of blood vessels to leak causing bleeding from the nose, mouth and eyes; shock and death results in about 5% of the reported cases.
