The Castleton on Ramford Power Facility (CRPF) is a coal-fired electric generating station located above Ramford Falls six miles west of Byers Point. Originally built in 1952 as a multi-fuel electrical generation facility, the site has undergone a number of transitions as fuel price and availabilities have changed. Originally built as a coal fired facility, the site has alternatively used oil and coal fired technology. The plant has had many upgrades, evolving to today's  highly efficient, clean-operating coal-to-electric generating station. The plant's sophisticated environmental control equipment, which cost more than $300 million, protects the land, air and water.

Castleton on Ramford was constructed in 1952 for a cost of $387 million. During the early '60s, CRPF was converted to an oil fired site to take advantage of the fuel economies offered by imported oil. In 1974 the plant was re-converted to it's current coal fired configuration and has been the recipient of $1.43 billion in upgrades and improvements over the years. Today,  CRPF has a total generating capacity of 1,870 megawatts (MW), providing the electrical power for 65% of the residents and industry in Ramford County..

The plant has three units, each rated at 550,000 KW. Units 1, 2 and 3 began operation in 1980, 1981 and 1982, respectively.

CRPF is owned by International Electric (IE).

Water for steam generation and cooling at LRS comes from Grayrocks Reservoir, six miles east of the plant. Sub-bituminous coal is shipped by train to the plant from strip mines near Gillette, WY. The coal is supplied by Western Fuels Association, a progressive fuel supplier for many environmentally conscious power companies. Western Fuels Association became a wholly owned subsidiary of International Electric in 2001.
